This early immersion in both the scientific and clinical realms cultivated a mindset of inquiry, critical analysis, and a steadfast dedication to advancing the field of plastic surgery.

Following medical school, Dr. Backe pursued a demanding residency in General Surgery, where she refined her operative skills across a spectrum of complex procedures. Her residency, conducted at a high‑volume tertiary care center, provided exposure to emergent trauma, intricate abdominal operations, and multidisciplinary collaboration with oncologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, and interventional radiologists. In addition to her formal training, Dr. Backe has engaged in continuous professional development through advanced workshops, cadaveric labs, and international conferences focused on cutting‑edge plastic surgery innovations. She has earned certifications in microsurgical reconstruction, facial rejuvenation, and laser‑assisted skin resurfacing, ensuring that her skill set remains at the forefront of evolving standards. Her proficiency in abdominal, thoracic, and vascular procedures provides a unique perspective that informs her approach to plastic surgery, particularly when addressing complex reconstructions that require an intimate knowledge of tissue perfusion and anatomical integrity. This background enables her to anticipate potential complications, optimize patient positioning, and implement precise hemostatic control, thereby reducing operative time and enhancing postoperative recovery.

Specializing in Breast Surgery, Dr. Backe has become a trusted authority for both aesthetic augmentation and oncologic reconstruction. She employs state‑of‑the‑art techniques such as pre‑pectoral implant placement, autologous flap reconstruction using the DIEP (Deep Inferior Epigastric Perforator) method, and fat grafting to achieve natural, harmonious contours. Her nuanced approach balances oncologic safety with aesthetic excellence, ensuring that patients undergoing mastectomy receive not only life‑preserving treatment but also the opportunity for a restored sense of femininity. Dr. Backe’s meticulous preoperative planning, coupled with her artistic eye for symmetry, results in outcomes that consistently exceed patient expectations.

Her expertise extends to complex resections of soft‑tissue sarcomas, head and neck malignancies, and skin cancers, where she applies reconstructive principles to preserve function and appearance. By employing techniques such as V‑Y advancement flaps, local rotational flaps, and free tissue transfer, she restores form and function while minimizing donor‑site morbidity. Dr. Backe’s commitment to oncologic vigilance, combined with her reconstructive skill set, provides patients with comprehensive care that addresses both disease eradication and quality‑of‑life considerations.

Her dedication to maintaining a sterile operative environment, utilizing intraoperative monitoring, and employing prophylactic measures such as antibiotic stewardship further mitigates the risk of infection and postoperative complications.
