Dr. Ehsan Ethan Sadri - Plastic Surgeon in Newport Beach, CA

Rigorous Medical Education and Training

Dr. Sadri earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of California, Irvine School of Medicine, an institution renowned for its rigorous curriculum and emphasis on research excellence. At UC Irvine, he distinguished himself not only through academic achievement but also through active involvement in ophthalmic research projects that explored corneal biomechanics and the molecular pathways of ocular wound healing. His dedication to both clinical excellence and scientific inquiry earned him the prestigious Dean’s Scholar Award, reflecting his ability to balance demanding coursework with innovative investigative work. This foundation laid the groundwork for a career that would be defined by an unwavering commitment to evidence‑based practice and a keen curiosity about the frontiers of eye care.

Following medical school, Dr. Sadri pursued a residency in Ophthalmology at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California, a program celebrated for its comprehensive surgical exposure and mentorship by world‑leading ophthalmologists. During his six‑year residency, he mastered a broad spectrum of ocular procedures—from routine cataract extractions to intricate vitreoretinal surgeries—while also honing his diagnostic acumen through subspecialty rotations in pediatric ophthalmology, neuro‑ophthalmology, and ocular oncology. His exceptional performance was recognized with the Resident of the Year accolade, a testament to his surgical dexterity, clinical judgment, and leadership within the resident cohort.

To further refine his expertise, Dr. Sadri completed a fellowship in Cornea and Refractive Surgery at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, an internationally acclaimed center for ocular innovation. Under the tutelage of pioneering surgeons, he refined cutting‑edge techniques such as wavefront‑guided LASIK, SMILE (Small Incision Lenticule Extraction), and topography‑guided photorefractive keratectomy. His fellowship culminated in a series of peer‑reviewed publications that examined the long‑term stability of corneal collagen cross‑linking and the impact of customized ablation profiles on higher‑order aberrations. This rigorous training not only equipped Dr. Sadri with unparalleled technical skill but also instilled a research‑driven mindset that continues to inform his clinical decisions and contributes to the advancement of refractive surgery worldwide.

Surgical Expertise

In the realm of refractive surgery, Dr. Sadri has become a trusted authority for patients seeking vision correction without glasses or contact lenses. His LASIK program incorporates the latest femtosecond laser platforms, which create precise corneal flaps with micron‑level accuracy, minimizing postoperative dry eye and enhancing visual outcomes. By integrating pre‑operative wavefront analysis, he customizes each ablation to address individual aberrations, achieving not only 20/20 vision but also superior contrast sensitivity and night‑time visual performance. His meticulous technique, combined with a patient‑centered postoperative regimen, has resulted in a 98 % satisfaction rate among LASIK recipients, a statistic that underscores his dedication to delivering predictable, high‑quality results.

Cataract surgery, a cornerstone of modern ophthalmology, is another arena where Dr. Sadri’s skill set shines. He employs phacoemulsification with premium intraocular lenses (IOLs) that cater to a spectrum of visual needs—from monofocal lenses optimized for distance vision to multifocal and extended‑depth‑of‑focus lenses that provide seamless near and intermediate clarity. By leveraging intra‑operative optical coherence tomography (OCT) and advanced IOL calculation formulas, he achieves refractive accuracy within ±0.25 diopters in the majority of cases. His comprehensive cataract protocol also includes meticulous capsular bag management and postoperative inflammation control, reducing the incidence of posterior capsular opacification and ensuring sustained visual acuity for years after surgery.

Beyond refractive and cataract procedures, Dr. Sadri is proficient in glaucoma surgery, offering both traditional filtration techniques and minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) options. For patients with advanced open‑angle glaucoma, he performs trabeculectomy and tube shunt implantation with a focus on preserving conjunctival health and minimizing postoperative scarring. In cases where earlier intervention is appropriate, he utilizes MIGS devices such as the iStent and Xen Gel Stent, which provide effective intra‑ocular pressure reduction with a lower complication profile. His nuanced approach to glaucoma management—balancing surgical aggressiveness with patient safety—has earned him a reputation as a surgeon who can navigate the complexities of ocular pressure control while preserving visual function.

Commitment to Patient Safety

Dr. Sadri’s unwavering dedication to patient safety is reflected in his active memberships with premier ophthalmic and surgical societies. As a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), he adheres to the Academy’s rigorous standards for clinical practice, participates in continuing education programs, and contributes to guideline development that shapes national policy on eye health. His affiliation with the American College of Surgeons (ACS) further underscores his commitment to surgical excellence, as ACS membership requires adherence to stringent ethical standards, peer review, and ongoing performance assessment. These professional ties ensure that Dr. Sadri’s practice remains at the cutting edge of safety protocols, evidence‑based techniques, and ethical patient care.

In addition to his society memberships, Dr. Sadri has been honored with several prestigious awards that recognize his leadership in patient safety and clinical excellence. The Visionary Eye Institute Founder’s Award highlighted his pioneering work in integrating advanced imaging technologies into surgical planning, reducing intra‑operative complications, and improving postoperative outcomes. The Top Ophthalmologist Award from Orange County Magazine praised his consistent track record of delivering safe, high‑quality care to a diverse patient population. Moreover, the Excellence in Patient Care Award from the AAO celebrated his systematic implementation of safety checklists, surgical timeouts, and patient‑centered communication strategies that have collectively lowered adverse event rates within his practice.

Dr. Sadri’s safety culture extends beyond accolades to everyday practice. His clinic employs a multi‑layered verification system that includes pre‑operative double‑checking of patient identifiers, surgical site verification, and real‑time monitoring of intra‑operative . He also champions the use of simulation training for his surgical team, ensuring that every member—nurses, technicians, and ancillary staff—maintains proficiency in emergency protocols, sterile technique, and equipment handling. By fostering a transparent environment where staff feel empowered to voice concerns and suggest improvements, Dr. Sadri creates a safety net that protects patients at every stage of their care journey, from consultation through long‑term follow‑up.
